This is why you run you air conditioning in the winter every few weeks to get air flowing over the coils. At least that is what I have been told. good luck

ummmmm...... yeah.... hahah back to the initial subject.... make sure you check your condensate drain from the coil as well no matter what method you use to clean the smell out.... sometimes the drain lines get plugged up and don't allow the condensate to drain out under the car (thats why in the summer you always see the puddle of water underneath the car) causing water to trap and yeah...
