Speeding Cam got me

Hi guys,

i was on my way to Lakeview yester evening and on Ashland the have a speeding camera, i think that thing got me on tape now, i was maybe driving 45mph and only 30mph was allowed. This is my first speeding ticket here in the US.

So what do i have to do now? Will they send me the ticket to my mail address or can i see that earlier?

Sorry, just relocated from Germany and all my co-workers told me that there are not cameras here... now i know better.

I never got hit by a speeding cam but I did get hit with a red light cam in the suburbs. I don't know what Chicago does with the speeding cams but with the red light cam, they send you a copy of the picture and a bill. If you choose to exercise your constitutional right to a fair trial and lose, (which you probably will), you'll get charged double. Obviously this is all about money. They don't really care about safety. It's the American way.

By the way, there are plenty of speed cams in Chicago and many red light cams in both Chicago and the suburbs. There is a smart phone app called "waze" which shows the locations of almost all of them.

Will my insurance go up because of that?

You will get a notice in the mail. Iirc it won't go on your record, but you might want to look in to that a bit more. I believe you have to be pulled over and handed a written ticket for it to count against you. Also be careful in the city, those fucking cameras are everywhere. They only take pics between 6am-11pm. So me being the asshole I am, speed thru them every morning on my way to work. I go past 3 of them every morning between 5:15-5:45am

Using Waze now all the time. Would be very annoying if my insurance goes up, cause i already pay $300 a month cause i´m new to the US. Was maybe not the best choice to lease a car like the scat pack, you can´t go slow with it

Better to drive a Scat Pack and pay the price than to drive a Prius. You just have to learn how to be a better outlaw.

It won't cost you points since they can't prove that you were driving.

I´m 34 and i recently moved to the USA from Germany, so i think it´s related to the driving and credithistory that is missing at the moment.

I was saying that as a joke, lol. But anyway that's fucking insane, my almost 22yr old daughter with a speeding ticket pays $100 a month. It's not a Scat but newer car, 12 Jeep Compass and she is insured on my Charger and the wife's Cherokee at that price.

got the ticket now.
It says:

Because this is your first apparent violation, there is no civil penalty at this time. However, further violations of this section will result in the issuance of a citation.

This is awesome, they have mercy with me...

From now on waze is running all the time, but I already noteticed that this is not 100% reliable, passed a cop today on meacham that was not reported yet, but i did it.

Yeah, that's a shock. I suspect it may have been a close call. If it were cut-an-dry, I don't see them not wanting your money.

i thought it was at least 15 miles over the limit... but maybe not. I don´t know. Doesn´t matter in the end, next time i´ll be more careful.

Chgo speed cameras are 1mph over the limit.m
