Might have to sell my Jeep

Well, it looks like I might have to sell my Jeep real soon, due to uncertainty at my job and I'm probably going to have to go back to commuting back and forth to the south side of Chicago again. Not going to go in to detail on a public forum about whats happening at work, but lets just say its not good, and I will be happy to tell anyone about it in person. I'm not willing to put 80-90 miles a day on my truck just for work, I paid too much money for this truck to have the miles pile on, not too mention all the rock chips, over double in gas and everything else associated with that long of a daily commute. Also I'm not willing to have that big of a car payment just to have the fucker sit in the garage. I bought my Jeep to daily drive it, but under the assumption my commute wouldnt be changing anytime soon. Probably looking to get in to something that will get me better gas mileage, lower my car payment just in case have to find a new job, and something I wont care as much about chips and shit. So I'm thinking a Wrangler or a Ram, but leaning more towards the Wrangler, because if everything works out in the long run then I can do a 6.1 swap in to the Wrangler in the future. Might go out Saturday when I get home from New York to look around.

Damn sorry to hear Shawn. Your being smart doing what you gotta do and planning ahead. At least you got to have fun with it for a little bit.

Yes I could go by a beater, but I don't want to make a big ass car payment on something that sits in the garage 80% of the time. If my car payment was only $250-$300 a month then I wouldn't care too much about it sitting in the garage. Also if I happen to lose my job (which I doubt) but if I do, then I'm fucked with my Jeep

Sucks big time but I think you have a smart plan in place. Hoping for the best for you though.

Don't think I could go back to a WK1 after having a new one. My job is safe for now but with what's going on, doesn't rub me the right way. My main concern is the commute and that's the major reasoning behind this. I just can't see driving 400-500 miles a week in my Jeep and fucking up the paint with chips and everything else that comes along with that many miles.

Has someone put a 6.1 in a Wrangler? Get the two-door, not the soccer mom version.

Supposed to rain tomorrow night. I have owned north of 30 cars probably closer to 50 and Charger was the longest, had that about 4 years. Bought my first brand new car at 18 and have had a car payment or 2 ever since, not too mention all the beaters and other trucks I have had that I paid cash for

Job uncertainty sucks, I've dealt with it for awhile, sorry to hear that you are too. I've always marked a few cars that I would trade in my SRT for so if you trade your Jeep like you did your Charger or 300 I may go a-shoppin Having a beater costs $ too, gotta drop mine off tomorrow for some work but I get a multi car discount and it keeps the Charger out of the shit.

What a bummer. I hope things can turn around at work and you can keep the Jeep.

Well I officially posted it on a Jeep forum, because my boss confirmed that I will in fact be commuting to south side and to job sites every day. Listed for $55k firm the way it sits, not interested in putting all the stock stuff back on unless I trade it in. Oh well shit happens, no big deal

Sorry to hear but it sounds like the mature decision to me, don't throw good money after bad so to speak. I hope you find a buyer, if not its best to go back to stock and get some cash for all the aftermarket stuff.

Thanks everyone, and for the record, I'm not losing my job. Is there a possibility, yes but a slight one. I'm mainly doing this due to the commute but in the same breath planning ahead just in case. Also I might have to go back in the field for a few months, and if that happens I'm not guaranteed my 40hrs a week. Sometimes our guys in the field get 20-25 hours a week and even less when we are slow. No biggie, it is what it is.
