I had trouble with my original oem bat. It was going dead, so I replaced it. The little bat symbol on the dash was lit. Car would drop some gauges and lost all function then died. I just put in a new one and the volts only say 11.8v and the bat symbol icon is still on. I'm trickle charging it, since it's new. Maybe it will be ok. Shouldn't the alternator pick it up to 13-14 volts while the car is running? It just sits at 11.8 with the motor running. I wonder if the alternator is shot too?

alternator voltage can drop below 13.8 depending on how much electronics you have on. for example, in the winter, when the heated seats are on, rear window defroster, climate control, head lights and windshield wipers, Ill see the voltage drop to around 12.8.... btw Tom, since you've added a lot of other electronic gizmos to the car, you may want to look into a higher amperage alternator for a replacement.
