Removing the vinyl Empty
PostSubject: Removing the vinyl   Removing the vinyl I_icon_minitimeMay 13th 2012, 6:32 pm

I settled down to spend all afternoon in the garage getting the vinyl, left over residue, and old road tar off my car.

Got a hairdryer and a big ol can of WD-40 and went to work. I was going to try the peanut butter method of taking tar off but when it came down to it I couldn't bring myself to smear peanut butter all over part of my car.

WD-40 worked like a champ. Most of the vinyl did not give me a fight coming off and 99% of it didn't leave anything behind. Just a little bit here and there. The first bit I pulled off on the drivers side took 20 mins to get the residue off and I was like oh geesh if the rest of the car is like this its going to take until next Tuesday. Luckily it was not.

I learned that I am pretty useless when I have gloves on, couldn't grip or pull the vinyl at all.

Why the vinyl had to come off, and the pass side still looked almost perfect, the drivers side not so much:

Working on the pass side:

This was about the avg amount of residue left except for after the first pull:

The area I was most worried about:

Day after the vinyl was first put on almost 3 years ago (missed it by 3 months)

As he sits right now, will look a little different tomorrow.......

I know....but I remember when we put the vinyl on I was unsure of it. If I re-do the vinyl it is going to be a July or August before I can get it done probably.
