Tar....................FML!!!!!

So I had my car washed Tues at a place thats really good by my work. One corner of my block is under construction for new sewers and I drive thru it sometimes. Well today I'm washing my car because it looked like mud all over it, and I'm thinking its from the corner of my house when it rained yesterday. Wash my car and the shit doesnt come off, its fucking tar from somewhere????? Clay bar wont even help!!! So I'm using and adhesive remover and it's coming off without that much effort. But its from the front fender to the rear bumper half way up the car. Anyone ever use adhesive remover on there paint? I have for little small things here and there, but I'm gonna wash the whole fucking car with this shit. Think it will damage the paint? It's nothing like industrial strength or anything, just shit you would use around the house.

I'm sure I'm stripping wax off the car, so I will re-seal it with a good wax tomorrow

I used to use laquer thinner, it takes it off REALY fast, BUT used it in moderation, and lightly as it can take the paint off lol, then just waxed it again and it was all good. When we went to Florida, I got tar on both sides on pretty much the whole fucking car

I am not a huge fan of using harsh chemicals on paint, I have used WD40 before which is slower but will not damage the paint. You can also use gas but you need to be a lot more careful due to the fire hazard. Both work well and don't damage the paint.

Shawn, you should use the stuff I used at mod night on crystals car called "Tarminator" by Stoner. You spray this stuff on the car, wait a min or so depending on how heavy the tar is... then just hose it off... and is safe for the car finish. The only thing is, it will strip the wax off too, so you'll need to reapply the wax when you're finished.

from my own experience with the stuff... from the minute you spray this stuff on the tar splatter, you will see the spots start to dissolve away...

Done, used the adhesive remover. Then another wash, looks good. Will throw some wax on the car tomorrow.

Just use some gas. It's a great solvent that takes off tar with ease. I use it to get the VHT track prep and rubber off my fender. It won't hurt a thing.

I was doing research on this because I am going to try to get the old tar off my car this weekend. The tops things I read about WD-40, diesel fuel, and peanut butter. Yeah I know... now I never want to eat the stuff again. Going to go the WD-40 route but I am kinda curious about the peanut butter. I have a giant jar that tastes like crap so gunna try a little bit.

I am going to try WD-40, Goo Gone, and peanut butter to see which one works best. I am a nerd and this is what I do when I get bored.


You Will Need:

Tar remover (available in the auto department)
WD-40
Goo Gone
Gasoline
Peanut butter
Soft cloths
Protective gloves

Steps to Remove the Tar:

There are both commercial products along with everyday household products that have been found useful in removing tar. So take your pick from the list above.
Apply the chosen product to the surface with the tar.

In some cases (WD-40, Peanut butter, Goo Gone), you will need to let the product sit on the tar for about 30 seconds.

Wipe the area with a soft cloth. Do not use any abrasive cloths or they could scratch the surface of the paint.

Repeat until all of the tar is removed.

Wash the clean surface as usual to remove any residue from the removal product. Leaving the product on for prolonged periods of time could damage the surface of the paint and cause discoloration.



Shawn if the peanut butter works you can make that a featured service at your car wash place.

Just buy a black car and forget it

Peanut butter works great on stained carpet in the interior as well.

stay clear of rt 53 too they have it all tore up,i didn't know unitl friday when i was driving home noticed the road all mangled up i flipped a bitch right in front of the construction truck and jumped on frontage rd.
