Trans shop referral

After two visits to Benoy Motors to do ride a longs with the trans specialist (he was patient even though we couldn't reproduce it really well), and leaving it overnight at Benoy for observation, the preliminary verdict is in:

No water in the trans fluid, but the torque converter IS going bad. New TC coming.

But here's the crazy part: right when the extended warranty company was about to OK the TC, the WARRANTY guy told the dealership "You know, as long as we're in there on the TC, we may want to just replace the trans too. Let me talk to my supervisor and get back to you in the morning.

Crazy, huh?

Not really, because he knows if the tc is screwed the trans is probably too or going next.

Yep, and isnt it usually the other way around. Trans usually goes then the TC.

Don't know. Like I say, dad used to trade in the car when the ash tray was full.

Warranty shop is sending an adjuster out today or Monday, and won't let the mechanics drop the trans. pan to check the fluid "until they are present." They don't trust the dealership, or just want to try to deny the claim.

Service Manager confirms their diagnosis that the issue is the TC and NOT the trans. Thinks it's crazy to put a used, unknown commodity transmission with similar miles to mine into my car when there isn't anything wrong with mine, AND I AGREE. So that will NOT be happening.

Anyone have experience with pricing on replacing a TC, parts + labor? I want to use this dealership...they just sound pricey if the warranty co. doesn't cover it and I have to pay for it myself.

Well im glad your tranny is ok. Them adjusters suck and will try anything to deny a claim. I took my Charger in to get some warranty work done when I had my extended warranty and since I had a bunch of stuff done, they sent out an adjuster. I needed all 4 tie rods, both power steering hoses, both tensioner strut bushings and my drivers side caliper replaced. The adjuster tried not to approve the work because he noticed I had a catch can. The mechanic told him the catch can has nothing to do with anything that went wrong with the car and it actually helps keep the engine clean. I got my work done under warranty and the total came up to $2500.....all paid by the warranty company, lol. I wish I was there just to bitch the adjuster out.

After a LOOOONG battle...again...bottom line is I got a call from the extended warranty company that they will replace my torque converter with a new one. This after I ripped into the adjuster on the phone and let out with "you will fix what is f***ing broken and ONLY that!"

They confirmed the only reason they wanted to replace my trans with another used one was to get themselves warranty coverage on the trans from a third party for the remainder of my contract with them. Pretty shocking honesty, I think.

Not surprised at all, thats why I dont buy that bullshit extended warranty.
