| If it aint broke, dont fix it. Thats my opinion anyways. I wouldnt mess with upgrading just in case it fucks with your tune. It might even lose your stock tune (not that you would ever go back to stock) | |

| Agree with the other resonses. I read on the other forum someone upgraded to the latest version and the speedometer is off by 15% to 20%. I also haven't upgraded mine since the intial upgrade. | |

| Mine came with the latest, so I didn't mess with it. I'm not sure what is to be gained by updating anyway. | |

| If you do ever decide to update, just make sure you make a backup of your stock tune. And double check that the backup really does exist on your computer. I had completely forgot that I re-formatted the drive that I had originally backed up my stock tune to so my backup was gone. Then I had a problem with my AC adapter for my predator and I thought that I might have toasted the predator itself. Luckily it was just the AC Adapter that fried and my stock tune was still saved in the Predator. I was able to get it back when I got a new AC adapter. I don't remember if it saves your stock tune when you upgrade or not but better to be safe. | |

| It would be amazingly poor engineering if updating the software wiped out your stock tune. The contraption has nothing but non-volitile memory and should have a section carved out permanently for the stock tune data. | |

| I'm no expert on the Predator, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. lol. I would think that these "updates" are firmware updates and all things electronic get those from time to time. They are fixes for issues that the Predator might be having with certain cars/motors. | |

Ghost, look at the list of firmware revisions to see if anything pertains to YOUR ride. If it does, update it to the latest revision. These are just fixes for the Predator that makes it better. DiabloSport Revision update instructions for Predator Note: You MUST restore the stock tune to the vehicle prior to updating the revision of ANY Predator. Required items: USB to serial cable / 12v 1 amp power supply (2.5x5.5mm tip, center is positive) 1.First step is to download the latest version of the DSDownloader software from the appropriate downloads page of our website. (support/downloads/select your part number/you will be directed to the appropriate downloads page) 2.Once you have completed the installation of the DSDownloader, open it up from your desktop. 3.If using a USB to serial cable, make sure you have installed the driver for the cable so it can be recognized by the PC. (The driver will be on a CD that should be included in the package with the cable). If you did not receive a driver, there are several drivers available for download from the forum section of our website under General Support. 4.Connect the USB to serial cable from the Predator to the PC, and power the Predator up (either using a 12v 1 amp power supply or by plugging it in to the vehicles OBDII port if you are using a laptop in the vehicle). 5.The first thing you see on the DSDownloader screen is set up instructions. Most newer Predators will be auto-detected by the DSDownloader once the tool is connected and powered up. If your tool does not auto-detect, you can click the link to set up the configuration of your specific Predator. 6.At this point you are ready to update the tool. Go to www.diablosport.com and click support/downloads/and select your Predator part number. Download the latest revision update from this page and save it to your PC somewhere that will be easy to find later. (desktop is simplest). 7.Now, with the DSDownloader opened and connected to your Predator, click the ‘Send CROM file to Predator’ button. 8.You will get a ‘firmware file to download’ window. Browse to your desktop (or wherever you saved the crom file) and select the file, and click open. 9.You will get a message to ‘please power cycle tool to continue’. This means you need to unplug the Predator from the 12v and plug it right back in. 10.At this point you will see a message that say ‘tool is ready, do you wish to download firmware?’ Click yes, and the download will start automatically. 11.Once the download is complete, you will see the new revision displayed across the main menu on the Predator, you may unplug the tool and tune the vehicle. You should always keep the Predator updated to the latest "crom file" because it is just a list of "fixes".=Good.

| It's possible that you will need your custom tune rewritten to the new CROM after updating the Predator. In Dave's case, where he NEEDS a custom tune for driveability, I wouldn't recommend updating unless his tuner is waiting and able to retune. Otherwise, he's stuck waiting for the tune adjustment. | |

This is a good question/debate. I believe that all firmware revisions would only affect the Diablo program tweaks and wouldn't have any affect on the custom tune for the chip in your car. It could, however make changes to the "canned" tunes in the Predator, depending on what it says in the read me on the revision. I haven't fully read up on the Diablo yet, but you should always keep your firmware up to date.

| A CMR tune is written to whatever CROM is on the handheld. If you have a custom tune and you update your Predator, lets say from version 8r20 to 9r14, you will more than likely need to have your custom tune rewritten to the new 9r14 CROM. It's the calibration update that will require this. If that changes, it's guaranteed that your old CMR tune will be useless.
If you're only running the canned tunes, and not a custom CMR tune, by all means, update. If you are running a custom CMR tune, and it's worth the hassle of possibly having your tune rewritten, go for the updates. Just be prepared to do so.
If it's not worth the hassle, it won't be the end of the world if you don't update. Some of us need our custom tunes for our vehicles to run. For me, it's not worth the hassle.

I see what your saying now. When you go for a custom tune, update before you leave and you have to have your predator with you during the tune, in order to have the custom tune installed to your car. Thanks, you saved me from a big mistake.

| Most people running a custom tune, including myself, find this out the hard way. | |
