| The absolute best time to take the pics is exactly as you did in that second set. During the middle of the day is the absolute worse unless it's very cloudy. If it's a clear day, the sun is too harsh in the middle of the day and completely washes out all the color and contrast. As the sun gets very low in the horizon, it creates that warm glow which is perfect. Only problem is you absolutely need a tripod for the best pics at that time - otherwise the camera will slow down the shutter speed to let in more light and you end up with blurry pics. If you don't have a tripod, shoot in aperture priority mode and open the shutter as much as possible (f/5.6, f/4.0 or lower depending on what your lens is capable of) and raise your camera's ISO to 1600 or 2000. The picture will get a little grainy due to the high ISO but the higher ISO will allow your camera to automatically adjust to a faster shutter speed and the faster your shutter speed the more your picture will be in focus!! Bottom line, shoot when the sun is low (just before sunset), shoot with a tripod, and shoot in aperture priority at about 200 or 400 ISO and your pictures will look awesome. | |
